Projects
As time and interest permit, I dabble in some side projects:
-
Shouldyoubuythiscamera.com
This grew out of an obsession with cameras. I was spending an unreasonable amount of time looking up prices, comparing features, etc. I built a tool that consolidates that work and automates. I would say this is version .5. It works, it can be much better.
-
slicer.longwalkhome.net
This is simple little tool to take wide photos and automatically slice them up for use on Instagram.
-
Seen.longwalkhome.net
Out of date, but an automatically generated list of books, movies, music that read/watched/heard this year.
-
photo.longwalkhome.net
This is the (unnecessary) custom front-end to my Flickr profile for photography.
-
Parkbound.app
This is a WAY OVER THE TOP site I built to plan national park visit. It has over 1000 pages just on the specific species one would find at the parks, it lets you complete missions, it has accounts. I made it while on a roadtrip through Utah to visit some national parks.
-
pnwbirding.longwalkhome.net
If you haven't noticed, I fancy myself a birder (of the most blurry kind). I had the chance to go to a great site in Eastern Washington and now wanted to build an itinerary for others. This site is meant to help make that easy. It pulls from iBird's API and some great local resources (attributed throughout the site).
-
spots.longwalkhome.net
This started as a way to answer one question for myself: where should I go walk right now? It pulls live light, weather, tide, and bird-activity data for eight West Seattle parks and scores each one, then tells you which spot is best at this exact moment.

Recap Studio
I built this out to experiment with taking a month's worth of photos into a single SUPER FAST recap video. After some feedback, MAYBE 1700 images in 2 minutes is too much. So I added features to control length, speed, and scope.
